Concrete Polishing — Superior to Floor Enamel
Project: Receiving corridor floor
Client: Morguard Investments Ltd., 2233 Argentia Rd.
Type of work: Concrete polishing
Value: $14,000.00
Overview: Failing floor coating throughout receiving corridors
Objective: Produce a low-maintenance dust-free finish
Specifications: Remove failing coating and polish floor to a hard, dense shine using a concrete densifier.
Problem
Our original site visit involved approximately 3,600 square feet of concrete floor that had been painted several times with floor enamel. Upon examination of the paint chips and the bare floor, it was evident that little or no surface preparation was performed resulting in extensive coating failure throughout.
Solution
Rather than coating the floor, IKS removed the existing coatings with a planetary grinder, and with successively finer grinding blocks, had the floor polished to produce a very smooth, high-gloss finish.
Results
- A smooth, glossy, non-dusting finish that is chemical and abrasion resistant, improves ambient lighting, and will not yellow.
- Easy to clean: Damp mop occasionally to remove dust or debris.
- Higher initial cost but less expensive throughout lifecycle.
- Low or no maintenance costs: No coatings applied means no touch-ups required or future re-coating.
- Environmental impact: No coatings means no VOC's (volatile organic compounds), no HAP's (hazardous air pollutants) and no future off-gassing, no coating to degrade producing resin dust. This system will also help architects earn LEED points in green building applications.
