Type of work: Finishing of the ceiling deck and joists, precast walls, and steel columns
PROBLEM
Poor ambient lighting and general appearance.
ANALYSIS
Sometimes things are what they seem... Here was a large warehouse facility that was generally clean and dry, and in sound condition — no exotic coating issues required, just a cost effective means to increase ambient light conditions and improve the overall appearance for the new tenant.
RECOMMENDATION
Ceiling and Joists - Application of Sherwin Williams Zero VOC Acrylic Dry-fall, an inexpensive coating that dramatically increased the ambient lighting. Dry-Fall is a coating designed for over-spray to dry to dust form as it falls, making for easy clean-up. The back half of the facility was leased by a separate company that had not painted the ceiling. The difference in ambient lighting is stark and dramatic. The zero VOC formulation allowed us to coat the ceiling while the other tenant continued with their daily operation, uninterrupted. This product is also LEED compliant. Precast Walls - Application of Sherwin Williams Property Solutions. This coating provides excellent hiding and touch-up, with low VOC's and paint odour and can be also be used in occupied buildings with little disruption to other tenants. This product is also LEED compliant. Columns - All columns were striped in Tremclad Gloss Alkyd Enamel — safety yellow, for high visibility for tow-motor and fork lift drivers.
RESULTS
Aesthetics - Clean and bright. Cost - As no unique performance requirement was necessary from the coating system, the coating specification met the client's requirement and their budget. Low environmental impact - Low VOC formulation helped save the day with another tenant in the building to consider.
